Dr. Nadine van Baal, born in 1976, employed by FREY Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft, studied law at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and the University of Cologne. She initially focused on Public International and European Law as well as Private International Law.
After accomplishing her first state examination in 2000, Dr. van Baal stayed in Brussels, working as trainee inter alia at the European Parliament, Directorate-General for Parliamentary Research Services. Subsequently, during her legal clerkship, Dr. van Baal worked, amongst others, for the German foreign broadcasting service Deutsche Welle, for the international law firm Norton Rose (now CMS Hasche Sigle) in the field of Industrial Property Rights and for the German Federal Foreign Office in the consulate general Guangzhou, China.
Entering into her professional career in 2003, after passing her second state examination, Dr. van Baal firstly worked as Legal Counsel for a German private bank until 2006. In 2006 she took up work on a doctoral thesis on copyright and licensing structures of musical works (national and cross-border). Accompanying her dissertation, she worked for FREY Rechtsanwälte, in the law office Scheuermann, Westerhoff & Strittmatter and in the legal department of a public broadcasting company (Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln) until completing her dissertation in 2010.
From 2010 to 2016 Dr. van Baal worked as legal advisor in the legal department of Deutsche Telekom AG, focusing in copyright, and media law. In spring 2016, she entered into our law firm. As of 2022, Dr. van Baal is working as Of Counsel for FREY Rechtsanwälte.
Dr. van Baal is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) and of the Alumni Medienrecht Köln e.V.
